This week we caught up with one of our newest Advisory Board members, Eric Timmreck, to get his thoughts about what motivated him to join the Marketplace Risk Advisory Board.
Eric Timmreck recently joined OfferUp as the Head of Trust & Safety. Eric architects holistic protection strategies that make efficient use of cross-team data and can be broken down into small components to support quick delivery & experimentation. Prior to OfferUp, Eric worked at Microsoft Corporation in Protection Services.
Our Advisory Board is the very lifeblood of everything we do at Marketplace Risk. From conferences and virtual events to resources and advice for startups, our board takes a hands-on approach to providing indispensable insight and guidance, drawing on their broad experience that spans a multitude of platforms and industries. We are so excited to welcome Eric to the Advisory Board!
As Marketplace Risk continues to grow, we have expanded our Advisory Board, with calls for new members who can use their skills and experience to help startups. We asked Eric a few questions to get to know him better:
Tell us what you do in / your connection to the marketplace / sharing economy space.
At OfferUp, we manage a C2C marketplace supporting a diverse set of product categories and user types.
What interests / fascinates you most about marketplaces / the sharing economy?
Not surprisingly, I am interested in finding ways to support buyers and sellers so they feel safe and secure when interacting in online marketplaces
How were you first introduced to marketplaces / the sharing economy?
In my twenties I found an online marketplace that sold high quality used outdoor gear and I was hooked!
What did you want to be when you were growing up?
An astronaut. I went to Space Academy as a teenager then studied Astrophysics in college but switched into technology when I saw the tremendous career opportunities.
What motivates you the most about your business/platform?
The opportunity for exponential impact. We have a large active user base who love our platform and I want to help them have the best experiences possible.
What one or two things do you do each day religiously?
I have two sons (3 & 6) and we read together everyday.
What do you think the world of marketplaces / sharing economy will look like in 10 years?
Inventories will be much larger. Marketplaces will offer a wider range of products and services in ways that feel frictionless to the modern lifestyle. Currencies will be more fluid providing users with many options for how to transact.
